GST lab has of recently extended its services into Engineering/Geotechnical Services. The Geotechnical lab was established in 2014 to serve various stake-holders especially in the Construction Sector. The lab is capable of characterizing physical behavior of pebble/rock, bim (concrete cube), brick and clay for various applications including the construction of infrastructures such as buildings, roads and dams.
Services offered by Engineering Geology Laboratory
- Soil testing e.g triaxial, direct/ residual test, particle size distribution, permeability, atterberg limits consolidation;
- Aggregate test e.g abration, impact value, ten percent fines, flakiness index, elongation index, crushing value, particle density and water absorption;
- Rocks mechanics testing e.g permeability of core, determination of porosity, uniaxial and triaxial compressive strength, tensile strength of material, point load strength point, determination of young’s modulus and fish’s ration;
- Bim and brick tests (Concrete Cubes and Brick Test);
- Provide guidance to various stakeholders in identifying the best possible areas to development activities such as geo-technical investigations;
- Slope stability analysis for geo-hazards studies.
