GST is one of the leading geoscientific organizations in Tanzania conducting research in various disciplines of earth science. Our expertise is focused on Precambrian geology, Proterozoic geology, Palaezoic geology, quaternary geology and natural earth resources. GST has experienced scientists specialized in various aspects of geology, environmental research, geophysics, geochemistry and information technology. The research staff is supported by a well equipped geo-laboratory and modern IT infrastructure.
The geological earth resources of strategic and economic importance - such as precious and base metals, industrial minerals, aggregates, dimension stones and energy sources (coal and geothermal) - are constantly in the core of GST's research mission. Research on geohazards and environment are also core activities. Future research priorities will increasingly include areas like assessment of mineral resources; technologies for sustainable use of minerals and advanced multidimensional geological modelling.
